St Edward’s can provide education for children aged 3 and above.
We take children from the term after they are 3 and therefore appreciate that the children are very young, some of our goals are to ensure we build children who are independent. The setting enables children to develop their skills through accessible resources, a snack area where they take responsibility and encouragement to always have a go.
We aim for the children in our Nursery to have a joy for learning and to be able to share this in their home life; we use Eylog to share what the children have been doing with us and we also love to see what the children have been doing at home via this app.
Our main goal is for the children to enjoy coming to school, to have fun while they’re with us and develop skills and knowledge which will support them as they progress through their lives.
Nursery Open Day
We will be having a Nursery open day on Thursday 11th April 2024. You will have the opportunity to come and meet our lovely Nursery staff and see our engaging learning spaces. Visiting times are 9:30am and 1:30pm. Please contact the school office if you would like to book a visit at either time.
When can your child start Nursery?
All children will be eligible to apply for a place at Nursery to start the term after they are three years old.
The universal funding can be taken as 15 hours per week across the 38 weeks of the school year. (Please see the Nursery Fees tab below for more information on funding).

Our aims throughout the year
The EYFS involves Early Learning Goals for the end of Reception, however some of the aims that we will be working towards within Nursery are:
- Listening to and discussing content within a story.
- Recognising and writing letters within their name.
- Recognising and describing features of shapes.
- Knows the importance of caring for others and living things.
- Understanding and talking about emotions.
- Drawing with increased care and accuracy.
- Counting and recognising numbers.
We have an excellent balance of direct teaching activities and child initiated learning within an environment that is exciting and engaging for all children. We complete in the moment planning, engaging in active play with the children at activities that they have chosen and teach the children through ‘In the Moment’ planning.

How do I claim a funded place at Nursery?
All children are entitled to a funded place for 15 hours per week from the term following their third birthday. You do not need to apply for this. In addition, you may be entitled to an extra 15 hours per week. You should visit the website www.childcarechoices.gov.uk(opens in new tab) for further details and to access the application for a 30 hour funded place. You will need to re-apply for your 30 hour code every three months.
In order for us to claim your funded place, the relevant forms for you to complete will be provided and should be returned to the School Office as soon as possible.
How will I pay?
All fees must be paid in advance via School Money.

Below is a typical day within Nursery, some of our children come to Nursery all day, whereas some just do the morning or afternoon sessions.

Wraparound Care
Wraparound care is also available for before and after school hours.
In order to support our parents and carers who required after school provision, we have started our own after school club. This is run by our own staff, Mrs Morris, Mrs Aucott, Mrs McInulty and Mrs Murphy. The club runs every day straight after school until 5.30pm. Prices are as follows:
3.15-4.30pm – £7.00
4.30-5.30pm – £7.00
3.15-5.30pm – £10.00
Our Breakfast Club also runs from 7.45am each day at a cost of £3 per pupil per session.
Both of these clubs can also be used on a ad-hoc basis at short notice if required, bookings can be made online at School Money or by emailing the office. If you would like to pay for either provision using childcare vouchers the bookings cannot be made online, please email the school office instead and we can do this for you. Unfortunately, any bookings made will be charged for unless your child is absent that day. This is because staff ratios will have been put in place. Childcare vouchers may be used to pay for Wraparound Care.
All nursery children will be eligible to attend our Before and After School Clubs.
Lunch and Snacks
Snacks
All Nursery children will be offered FREE fruit and milk every day.
Lunch
If your child stays for lunch, they will eat in the school dining hall with their Nursery peers and will be supported by our staff team.
Your child can either have a school dinner, or bring their own packed lunch. Please ensure this contains healthy food choices. There is a standard charge of £5 per day to cover the lunchtime session as this is additional to any funded hours.
You will be provided with forms to inform staff members of any particular dietary requirements or allergies your child may have.
School Dress Code
High standards of dress are considered to be very important. School uniform is practical, allows for ease of recognition, avoids discrimination and adds to pupils’ sense of belonging and self-respect.
Boys: (All year)
- Long grey/black trousers or shorts – (No jeans or canvas material)
- White polo shirt
- Royal blue sweatshirt or jumper
- Grey or black socks
- Black sensible school shoes
Girls: (All year)
- Grey/black skirt or pinafore dress, pleated culottes or tailored school trousers – (No jeans or canvas material)

Hair past shoulder length needs to be tied back.
